Why Buy? Here’s Why: Homeownership versus renting
December 19, 2014
While buying a home may be the largest investment you’ll ever make, it’s also the most valuable, allowing you to build equity and make your future more financially secure.

But how do you know if you’re ready for life beyond renting?

“Sometimes people need to rent because they’re not ready to take on the challenges of homeownership,” said David Corry, a loan officer with MNET Mortgage in Salisbury. “When you rent a place, everything is taken care of for you, which is fantastic, but it’s why you pay more to rent than you do to own.”

If you’re wondering whether you’re ready for homeownership, ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Am I committed to living in the same location for at least five years?
  2. Do I have a secure job and secure income?
  3. Do I have enough money for a down payment (at...

Local home values on the rise
December 9, 2014
Berlin, Md. – Home listing prices and sales prices are on the rise in the Tri-County area, according to the latest figures from the Coastal Association of REALTORS® (CAR).

The November 2014 CAR Local Housing Statistics reflect an 11.5 percent jump in the average listing price and an 11.3 percent jump in the average sales price of single family homes and condominiums, compared to October 2014.

“Rising listing and sales prices reflect more and more homeowners having the ability to sell,” said Sheila Dodson, executive director of CAR, pointing out that the National Association of REALTORS® annual survey, released last month, revealed that the typical seller over the past year was in their home for 10 years before selling, which is an all-time survey high for tenure of home. “It’s a very encouraging sign both locally and nationally.”
