CAR partners with state to build pocket park on Smith Island

Lower Shore, Md. – The Coastal Association of REALTORS® (CAR), in partnership with the Maryland Department of Planning’s Lower Eastern Shore Regional Office, has received a $5,000 Placemaking grant from the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) to help make Smith Island a better place to live and visit by transforming an unused space into a vibrant public space for the community to gather and enjoy.
The grant is intended to help REALTOR® associations partner with others to plan, organize, implement, and maintain placemaking projects in their communities.

CAR announces Fair Housing Calendar Contest finalists

Lower Eastern Shore, Md. – After receiving almost 100 submissions, the Coastal Association of REALTORS® (CAR) has chosen three finalists – one from each of the three Lower Shore counties – in this year’s Fair Housing Calendar Contest.
  • Tashira Ballard, 3rd grade, Greenwood Elementary School
  • Lindsay Birkhead-Morton, 7th grade, Snow Hill Middle School
  • Lyric Campbell, 5th grade, North Salisbury Elementary School
Each finalist received a framed copy of their submission and a Visa gift card, compliments of CAR.
The three finalists have been forwarded to the Maryland Association of REALTORS® (MAR). Only one will be chosen for inclusion in MAR’s statewide 2018 Fair Housing Calendar. That winner will also be invited to Annapolis for a special recognition ceremony with the governor or other state...

Warmer temps boost contract activity

Lower Eastern Shore, Md. – Unseasonably warm temperatures have increased foot traffic on the Lower Shore and boosted contract activity, according to the latest figures from the Coastal Association of REALTORS® (CAR).
February 2017 saw a 46 percent increase in new single family home and condominium contract starts compared to the same time last year in Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester counties. Individually, Somerset single family home contracts increased by 53.8 percent, Worcester by 30.2 percent, and Wicomico by 26 percent. Somerset condominium contracts remained the same, but increased by 75.3 percent in Worcester and by 42.9 percent in Wicomico.
Settlements in all three counties were down overall by seven percent. Single family home settlements remained the same in Worcester and Wicomico counties and decreased by 7.1 percent in Somerset. Condominium settlements were down by 8.5 percent in Worcester,...
